“The violence of the wicked will sweep them away, because they refuse to do what is just.”

Proverbs 21:7

The violence that torments us

There is a component of violence in our current societies, such that it has become quite difficult to live together on a daily basis. People insulting each other in transportation because there is not enough space for everyone, drivers desperate to get somewhere (ignoring signs and pedestrian crossings), people who always want to prioritize their own needs over those of the others. Logically, we have become more selfish and individualized beings, we no longer think about our relationships with others and we often close ourselves off in our own problems.

Our thoughts are simplistic: "I have to vent my frustration" and other people are usually the likely candidates to do so. We get angry, we scream, and we insult, but what is it that is really hurting us? We must take a few minutes of reflection to calm ourselves and evaluate these situations in another way. Speaking to Our Heavenly Father we will find the calm we need before becoming aggressive with someone who perhaps has no responsibility for what is happening to us. Before a moment of anger we must always be able to explore what we feel, what causes it, how we can be better with ourselves and with our brethren. Following God's word and seeking consolation in Him when we are irritated by a problem, will give us the peace we need.
