Mary, the mother of Jesus. Many of us may have wondered why Mary was chosen by God to bear and raise her Son. Mary herself seemed to be well aware of the reason, which we can see exemplified by her reaction when the angel gave her the message. "Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; be it done unto me according to thy word." She understood that God had chosen her because she had low thoughts about herself.


“Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.” Genesis 2:22-23

The prophetess Anna was a woman who lived close and dedicated her life to God alone. At the age of 84, she witnessed Jesus coming to the temple as a baby. Because of her deep and personal connection with God, she immediately understood that the prophecies about the coming of the Messiah had been fulfilled.


“Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.” Ephesians 5:22-23

Deborah was the fourth judge of the Israelites after Joshua's death. While most people committed sins against God and worshipped idols, Deborah was faithful to God. When war came against the Canaanites, she understood that Israel must go to war, even though they were outnumbered. Barak, who led the Israelite army, lacked the faith to face the enemies with his ten thousand men.


“I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.” Isaiah 61:10

Mary Magdalene, from whom The Lord cast out seven demons and then, drawn by the mercy of Jesus Christ became one of the women who assisted Jesus. The first person to whom Christ spoke after his resurrection. As Christ announced, wherever the Gospel is preached there is talk of this woman who, with a great heart, was able to make a radical conversion of her life.


“If a man has recently married, he must not be sent to war or have any other duty laid on him. For one year he is to be free to stay at home and bring happiness to the wife he has married.” Deuteronomy 24:5

Eve, the mother of all the living, was the point and end of God's creation. Her presence signaled the conclusion of all creation. She was the living embodiment of the glory of humanity. In her original state, uncontaminated by any evil, free from any disease or defect, preserved from all imperfection, Eve was the perfect archetype of feminine excellence. She was magnificent in every way.
