The Independence of your Soul

You are the right person. You have the tools in your power. There are no magic recipes, just trust and follow the path.

"Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me!" Psalms 51:10

Modern society forces us, more and more intensely, to live in an inordinate rhythm of obligations and conflicts.

We turn the pages of life so quickly that we can lose track of the wonderful blessings that The Lord has in store for us.

There are so many flanks we must cover and so many resolute actions we must undertake that, at times, we can forget this great truth: We deal with so many things at the same time and we are burdened with endless obligations that make our minds focus only on our daily problems. When we cannot see beyond our circumstances and think that we face all our burdens alone, we can fall into the erroneous view that we can solve our setbacks without the Lord's help.

Let us keep in mind that God is in each of our actions and that everything we undertake is done under His Guidance and Mercy.

“Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.” 2 Corinthians 3:5

When we have the capacity and strength to face and overcome the various trials that life presents us, we feel satisfied, proud of our achievements, reassured for having solved what at first sight seemed complicated.

These goals, large or small, can occur in various contexts: a work achievement that produces recognition from our superiors and colleagues, having successfully completed our domestic tasks, passing a university exam, excelling in artistic or sporting activities, etc.

There is nothing wrong with feeling joyful for reaching our goals; but we cannot overlook this great truth: The Lord rejoices the most in our victories.

From Him, we acquire that impetus, that strength that allows us to surpass ourselves in His glory and fulfill His purpose every day.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5

It is precisely in this type of circumstances that we run the risk of believing that all the good things we have achieved have been only thanks to our efforts, taking all the credit for the objectives we have reached.

We can make the serious mistake of feeling self-sufficient, not recognizing the support of our relatives along the way, nor the incentive and encouragement of our friends.

The most worrisome aspect of this situation is that, as it grows within us, we begin to disregard God's presence in every event of our lives.

This denial takes us away from the path that our Heavenly Father has traced for our salvation.

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9

Even from different media, there is a sort of approval of self-sufficient attitudes.

Stories and contents of people who have succeeded "on their own" are replicated.

When someone loses the Gift of Humility and the ability to be thankful from the heart, they will probably also lose the ability to recognize their need for help from the Lord or other people.

Self-sufficiency can lead us to believe we are superior to others, transform us into egocentric beings, underestimate the contribution of those around us.

“Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me.” Psalm 54:4

Let us always remember that self-sufficiency is not a trophy. It is a trap.

Let us keep in mind that all our achievements are the product of the Strength of our Faith in Christ and our Commitment to The Lord.

If we have arrived, it is because God intends us to be there to fulfill His purposes. If we have arrived it is because there were family and friends working through the highest to propel us into the future.

Pidamos a nuestro Padre Celestial que nos libere de toda soberbia y altivez, que mantenga nuestra humildad y Don de agradecimiento y que nos Guie por el camino del Bien.
