The First Step: Accept and Love Ourselves

If we want to advance on a path of healing and spiritual evolution, we must accept ourselves as we are, love ourselves and take care of our heart.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” Philippians 4:6-7

If we have ever tried to hide happiness or love, we have probably found it very strange, difficult or impossible to contain. Suppressing or subduing certain feelings that do us good inside, make us proceed in an unnatural way.

What is it that makes us hide sadness or grief? Why do we have to show ourselves to the world in the best possible way? What do we have to hide from the people around us if we are not well inside?

"From heaven the Lord looks down and sees all mankind; from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth— he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do." Psalm 33:13-15

Of course, the reflection of our being and our inner self is evidenced in the way we manifest ourselves (from the way we dress, the way we act, walk or talk). In today's world, having a positive attitude is rewarded with smiles and phrases such as "what a nice energy you have" or "your performance was helped by your positive attitude".

What sense would it make then not to be able to deal with our critical or unhappy moments. We should not torment or punish ourselves when we go through these stages of mourning or emotional acceptance.

Understanding that they are transitory and that they will allow us to grow stronger in spirit and heart is the path God wants us to follow.

“In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name.” Psalm 33:21

Accept ourselves as we are in those moments when life subjects us to circumstances or events that manifest feelings of distress. If the situation that surrounds us generates sadness, we should embrace our Faith, surrender our burdens and worries to our Lord and pray to receive the warmth of the Holy Spirit in our hearts.

Thanks be to God that in Christ we find the answers to all the questions and doubts that we come to ask ourselves. Not to break the trust we have in God is the fundamental pillar to be able to move forward in communion with the Faith.

"Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." Hebrews 4:16

Trust in the Holy Spirit proves to be a shield against distressing situations. Not only will it help us to repel such negative feelings, but it will also give healing to our inner being and leave us predisposed to overcome our fears and melancholy.

Not only overcome, but also gestate a base to be able to approach from another place and another perspective a potential solution to the conflict or problem. Those ghosts of fear and blindness will disappear since God will enlighten us and feed our thoughts with his light.

“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.” Isaiah 9:2

It is very important to understand and remember that from the heavens God the Father observes each and every problem, having a clarity and a plan for each one of them. He sees all his children equally and for this reason he understands the difficulties that we can go through, whatever the reasons for which we are going through. We are always dealing with information cuts, processing part of what we perceive and understand as a "problem" an affectation that for other people or for the same Heavenly Father does not imply an obstacle.
