Reflections on How to Leave Fear Behind

From an early age, we know that we will have to deal with difficult or traumatic experiences that can generate anguish and fear in us. Let us control our anxiety, the Lord is at our side telling us: "Fear not, I am with you".

"How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you. "Psalm 31:19

When we make the wonderful decision to follow the Lord, we understand that the road will not be easy and that we will have to deal with difficult and traumatic experiences that can generate in us one of the most harmful feelings we can experience: fear.

In these types of instances, we are exposed to emotional paralysis and that is when we begin to not find answers, to not know which direction to take, to wonder where God is.

That is why it is very important to control our anxiety and not to worry about the details of what could happen to us in the future since our Heavenly Father is constantly at our side telling us through His Word: "Do not be afraid, I am with you".

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

There are many and varied factors that can lead us to fear. Our logical worries about the future, our work situation, the health of our loved ones, the search for daily sustenance, the fear of failure.

When these types of overwhelming instances settle in our hearts, the restlessness that manifests itself in our actions leads us to experience the erroneous sensation that our dependence is on a human source. When these thoughts cloud the path we walk hand in hand with the Lord, we see how difficult it is for us to place our absolute trust in the Highest.

For this reason, it is essential to immediately move away from the focus that we are giving to reality and understand that our Heavenly Father is attentive, willing, and present in each of our acts.

“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” Psalms 23:4

When we go through times of trials in which we must face darkness and shadows, fear can confuse us to such an extent that we cannot see the future clearly and our hope begins to weaken.

In this type of situation, it is necessary to recognize that we are afraid, leaving aside our ego and sense of self-sufficiency.

What is the moment when we distinguish that we are afraid?

When can we recognize that we must overcome it? By accepting our weaknesses, we acquire the strength to understand that there is something superior in which we can fully trust: God. Many times we desperately seek to solve our problems in the wrong places, distancing ourselves from the Word of the Lord.

That is why it is of utmost importance to take the first step and admit our fear. The second step is the most wonderful one, because there Christ awaits us with open arms, offering us His infinite Love.

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6

We must understand that our character is strengthened and nourished by the Lord. If we feel overwhelmed, sad and downcast, it is essential to seek our Heavenly Father: He is the respite, He is the one who lifts us up.

Therefore, when we trust in God from the heart, we can stop worrying to the extreme and leave it in His hands. Let us not stop smiling, then, even if the moment we are going through is painful, let us always seek Jesus and never stop believing in what He is capable of accomplishing.

We can look to the future with peace of mind, knowing that when we recognize ourselves under His Perfect Guidance, we are safe.

“I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.” Psalms 34:4

Let us surrender, with humility, our burdens and problems to the Lord. In Him, we can overcome our fears and regain our long-awaited Peace.

When we remove fear from our hearts we feel Free and Balanced again.

Strengthened in Christ, we have the necessary temperance to face all the obstacles that the world presents us with every day.

Let us cast out the fear that annuls us. The Lord protects us and makes our lives more secure and harmonious in Him.
