Overcome Fear; Let Go of Doubt

Many times we are presented with something that generates fear. Learn in the following article how to identify it and act quickly.

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Romans 3:23-24

Everyone has their own temptations. Take a few moments to reflect and identify your personal temptations. Then, detect the personality traits that lead you to temptation: perhaps you are insecure or never satisfied with yourself, perhaps you prioritize pleasure over responsibility. No two people are exactly alike; what tempts you may be similar to what tempts your friends, family or other acquaintances, but it is most likely unique to you.

“What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? By no means!” Romans 6:15

Set reasonable goals to combat temptation. In combating temptation, you must consider the fact that as a human being you are incapable of being perfect. Do not set an unattainable goal such as "I will never sin again". If you do, you will be destined for disappointment. Keep in mind that you will inevitably sin again. So set realistic goals that take this into account.

“If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over.” Matthew 18:15

Be responsible for yourself. It is not for nothing that you received the blessing of self-will, so don't waste the opportunity to consciously act against temptation. Make up your mind and take action now, make it your goal not to succumb to temptation. The hardest part of it may be just beginning, it is important not to sabotage this aspect before it has begun by telling yourself that you will not be able to do it.

“Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me.” Psalms 119:133

Turn your back on the sins of the past. The only thing you cannot change about yourself is your past, do not allow yourself to be burdened with remorse for the sins you have committed in the past. The only right path is the one that goes forward, towards righteousness. If your past is marked by sin, acknowledge your mistakes without feeling excessively guilty. Build on the foundation of your past mistakes and strive never to make them again. Even if you relapse, you will have made great progress with respect to your sinful past.

Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?” Matthew 7:3

Avoid situations and people that lead you to sin. Certain people, places and situations make sin easier to commit. Certain sins would be impossible without the right environment or people. Make sure you stay away from whatever leads you to sin. If certain friends are almost always trying to convince you to commit acts unworthy of the Lord, don't hang out with them anymore. By distracting yourself from people and things related to sin, you will eliminate the opportunities for sin and be less likely to fall into it.
