Forgiveness: The Tool of Healing at Christmas

"Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon." Isaiah 55:7

Forgiveness is a unique tool. A precious blessing given to us by God in our path. A principle of emotional health that gives us freedom, a requirement for a healthy spiritual life.

When forgiveness comes from our lips, ideally it should do so with the conviction of leaving resentment behind.

At the moment of telling a person I forgive you, we are opening the real possibility of building a bridge that brings us closer, that allows us to be well again.


"Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven." James 5:14-15

If we perform forgiveness in a sincere way as Heavenly Father taught us, seek to give affection through this special gift that means opening your heart.

Express attention, sensitivity, commitment, solidarity with the person who hurt your feelings.

Where there is no restriction is in affection, where we can be generous, overflowing with love, because it causes memories in the soul.

Forgiveness is not negotiable: it is accepted, and is given infinite value because it means that the other person decided to remove the walls, lower the defenses, is allowing himself to see you with eyes of love and mercy.

Knowing how to forgive is an act of conviction, of deep affective maturity, it is telling the other person here I am, I want you back in my life. Forgive and be forgiven, a unique value that will help to reconnect our paths on the path of the Holy Spirit.


"Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. hrough him everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses." Acts 13:38-39

When we forgive we trust, we believe, but it is not a leap of faith, it is a leap of hope, which is sustained and maintained not in the illusion, but in the verification of the change of the person we have forgiven, not by pointing out and criticizing, but by recognizing the positive actions that this person is generating, only thus forgiveness is sustained.


"Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times." Matthew 18:21-22

When both decide to give each other a second chance through forgiveness, they have the obligation to nurture love, modifying habits, trying to be the best version of themselves; but before giving forgiveness we must reflect.

To forgive means to put our eyes on learning; to put our eyes on the lesson learned, instead of on the resentment that makes us take out our worst part, precisely that which keeps us away from the way of the Lord.
