Exercising the Heart: In Search of Happiness

The conscious pursuit of happiness involves focusing on a few basic pillars. Learn how to exercise your heart with the following article.

"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." Proverbs 4:23

Some people experience difficulties in receiving love. It is then that even though God gives them love and shows them devotion, everything falls into a black hole that has no bottom.

It is a frustrating situation that leads to disconnection from the Faith and alienation from the Holy Spirit.

Knowing how to receive love has to do with our self-esteem. As we let our guard down, allow ourselves to be more vulnerable, expose ourselves with our feelings and thoughts in front of the Heavenly Father, we accumulate ascending rungs to our self-concept.

When we accumulate these positive experiences, we feel that we have something to give back, we develop feelings of love for the Lord, we become receptive and sensitive to the emotions and blessings received.

When we receive, we feel the desire to give. We have a fine sense of the balance that exists between spirituality and our inner being, which indicates to us where the right compensation is going. It is disinterest, indifference, that leads to the breaking of bonds and of our relationship with God.

"The heart is deceitful above all things  and beyond cure. Who can understand it?  “I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve"." Jeremiah 17:9-10

So we can say that happiness is not moments, but processes, it is a movement that goes up and down and is not defined at a certain point in relation to the Holy Spirit.

The same happens on a trip, are you only happy when you arrive at your destination, or do you begin to enjoy yourself from the very moment you dream of that trip, when you pack your suitcase?

The happiness of Faith is not seconds, nor minutes in a week. It is not just Friday nights or Saturdays, when you have more free time.

It is everything you do in the name of God, the big or small decisions you make in the path of Glory of the Heavenly Father. It is everything that opens the doors of your heart to receive love, respect, compassion and guidance in your day to day life.

"But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." 1 Samuel 16:7

If we manage to find meaning in our actions together with the Lord, it will help us to focus on him forever. This will give us a vision for the future, which is what we need. Focusing on God because He alone will fill us with love and light, nourishing the happiness that is related to gratitude.

To be thankful for the things that happen to us, for the things we learn, for our capacity of astonishment together with the Holy Spirit. We must be grateful for the simple, the everyday. Those little things we choose to do and say in the name of the Lord.

The other key to exercise happiness is to focus on the half of the full glass. With all the realism, with all the clear ideas. But to focus more on what we have and less on what we lack. Clearly this is a choice

"Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends." John 15:13

Our words have the wonderful power to lift people up or tear them down. They can inspire confidence, security, or distrust and rejection. That's why you have to learn to use words to your advantage, choosing them wisely.

The same goes for the Word of God. Throughout your life, you will remember words and phrases from the Bible. Surely these quotes or passages have shaped your perception of the world around you. It also shapes our perception of what we may or may not become.

The Holy Spirit gives impetus to our dreams The Holy Word at some point creates our world, our future and our destiny of Faith.
