“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-5

Adam and Eve. The world's first couple had their ups and downs. Adam had no one of his own kind to share his life with, but God caused him to fall into a deep sleep and from there formed Eve. This teaches us that we must be patient in waiting for the right person and not force a relationship just because we believe it is within God's will.


“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.” Psalms 143:8

Abraham and Sarah. They had been married for years but had no children. At that time, having no offspring was considered almost a curse; however, Abraham and Sarah showed faithfulness to each other and also to God. This was rewarded when God showed them that he had a purpose for both of them. Today, when two people marry, they become one and God uses them individually but also as a team.


“Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.” Proverbs 3:3-4

Jacob and Rachel. Times have changed and nowadays in most cases, a man is no longer required to work in order to win the hand of his betrothed. Nevertheless, Jacob had to work twice as hard to be able to marry Rachel. A popular saying goes that love alone is not enough and this story proves that he who loves also provides for his bride.


“I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love.” Ephesians 3:16-17

Hosea and Gomer. The story that most resembles God's love for men is that of Hosea and Gomer. Hosea demonstrated unconditional love for Gomer in spite of all her circumstances and attitudes. While it is almost unrealistic to think that we can love like that today, we must remember that God does it every day with us. He treats us according to His love and not according to our deeds.
