Providing the necessary support

Because giving advice is not an easy task if we really want to make a difference. Learn how to do it in the following article.

“Listen to the advice and accept the correction, so that you are wise the rest of your days. There are many plans in the heart of man, but the Lord's advice will remain. ”Proverbs  19:20-21

Learn to listen. Many people think that being a good counselor is about giving advice right and left, but the secret lies in knowing how to listen. So we can gather all the necessary information so that we can give advice that suits what our interlocutor is needing.

“And they answered him, saying, If today you become a servant of this people, and serve them and grant them their request and say good words to them, then they will be your servants forever.” Kings 12:7

Develop your empathy. But at the same time this listening must be conscientious, since it is useless to listen and listen if you do not have a registry of the other. A good way to check if our listening is efficient is through the development of empathy, which will place us in the place of the other and so we will live their problems as our own.

I advise you to buy gold refined by fire so that you can get rich, and white clothes so that you dress and the shame of your nakedness is not manifested, and eye drops to anoint your eyes so that you can see." Revelation 3:18

Put yourself in his place. Many times we do not take full dimension of the problems of others until we try to put ourselves in their place. Only in that way will we see things as they really are and more importantly, will we see how these problems affect the people who come to us for advice to improve their situation.

“Therefore, O King, may my advice be pleasing to you, put an end to your sins by doing justice and to your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; your prosperity may be prolonged”. Daniel 4:27

Advise as yourself. This is a good parameter to keep in mind, since we will never advise ourselves so that something can harm us. So to pass all advice through the filter to advice as if the problem were your own is a very good start.

While Pilate was sitting on the judge’s seat, his wife sent him this message: “Don’t have anything to do with that innocent man, for I have suffered a great deal today in a dream because of him.” Matthew 27:19

Advise only about what you know. It is not necessary to fill silences with talk about what we do not know. In such cases, the wisest advice is to say “I'm sorry, but you will have better luck if you consult someone who knows about the subject”.

“The fool's path is straight in his own eyes, but he who hears advice is wise.” Proverbs  12:15

Maintain humility In relation to the previous point, let us keep in mind that we will also be learning to be humble, leaving aside the vanity that drives us to talk about what we sincerely do not know.
