4 Brief reflections that will help you accept bad news

When faced with complicated life situations, we always falter and lose our direction. These reflections will allow us to open our hearts to the Lord.

1) “Fear not, for I am with you, be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

Facing bad news is always a complicated task, it is something that takes us off guard and we think it is something we will never be prepared for.

But still, it is God's will to put us to the test in the way He deems necessary. It is our duty as children of God to resort to his word in order to try to understand what Christ means by this situation.

2) “ I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.” Romans 8:18

Let us use the death of a loved one as an example: A part of us, due to the time shared in life with the person who is no longer there, will tend to focus on those empty places that remained when they left.

We must realize how difficult it will be for us to mourning fully and how are we supposed to manage from now on. Remember in that moment, the joy and happiness our loved one, whose soul is already on the way to meet with God, has given us.

3) “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more, for the former things have passed away.” Revelations 21:4

Let us then think about who is with us every day, who is our confidant and friend, our father and good shepherd; let us also think about who is the one that trusted us from the beginning and has never judged us, but understood and loved us just as we are.

In the depths of our hearts we have always known that the answer to everything is God, it is only in these complicated moments that we go through that our vision gets cloudy and we end up surrendering to depression.

4) “Remember thy word to thy servant, in which thou hast made me hope. This is my comfort in my affliction that thy promise gives me life.” Psalms 119:49-50

But what is left for those of us who remain alive? It is in these moments where we must hold onto the most valuable thing that those who have passed away have left us: their memories.

The remembrance of the happiest memories that we have shared with them, the example of who they were and what made us love them and respect them even more so, because when a loved one leaves, what is left are their memories converted into teachings, those teachings that make us better people.
